Artist's Statement

For as long as I can remember I have always had an interest in creating things whether it had been a video, a drawing, or a work of writing. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized I could do something with this creativity. I started taking courses in media that allowed me to experiment with filming, editing, writing, drawing, and more.

A few years ago I discovered more than just college courses though, I discovered my sound in music. I mean I’m no musician, but I would definitely say I have an ear for music. It started in high school with a few bands that my cousin and I shared an interest in like 5 Seconds of Summer and All Time Low. After that my taste in music just kept evolving more and more and now I listen to bands like Nirvana, Green Day, and The Rolling Stones.

Music has most definitely inspired and sparked up the creative side of myself. I listen to mostly rock because I feel like the lyrics these bands create speak to me and influence the way I think about the world; for example Green Day’s new video for their song ‘Troubled Times’. This was my favorite song on the album when it first came out because it says what so many people are thinking about everything happening in the world right now. The video just emphasizes the importance of every lyric in the song.

I have a strong interest in music videos; I love the story telling aspect of music or just the creativity you can put into the videos.  As far as creativity goes with music videos my favorites have to be Ok Go and Panic! At the Disco’s videos. Ok Go comes out with these insane concepts and perfectly engineered videos. The thought and time that goes into their videos blows my mind and makes me want to put my creativity into something like that. Panic’s videos are not only creative, but they tell stories. They even made one video in between albums after two of the members left; it was this whole metaphorical concept of moving on from one era to the next.

I want to use my creativity to tell stories.
